Mbappé apologises to the Chinese people after controversial remarks

Kylian Mbappé, the star of Real Madrid, has issued a statement apologising to the Chinese people for his controversial remarks about Chinese leader Mao Zedong, expressing his respect for the Chinese people and their history.

Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Kylian Mbappé published his statement on his official social media accounts in French, Chinese, and English, after his sarcastic comments about a modified image of himself sparked widespread controversy in China.

Mbappé stated in his statement: "During an interview, I reacted to a modified image of myself, and my comment was judged. I now understand that many people in China felt offended. I apologize to anyone my words may have hurt; it was not my intention. I have deep respect for the Chinese people and their history, and I ask for forgiveness."

Real Madrid star's apology comes after the controversy overshadowed his loss of the Ballon d'Or, following the Chinese government's decision to not broadcast the team's matches on state television due to his comments regarding Mao Zedong.

The Spanish newspaper reported that the Chinese government has not yet reversed its decision, and there has been no new reaction from it or the Chinese people following Mbappé's statement.
