Mbappé: We sent a good message, and this is what we showed
French star Kylian Mbappé spoke about Real Madrid's win over Barcelona in El Clásico, which ended 2-1, emphasizing that the victory came thanks to teamwork. He stressed the importance of continuing to collect points in order to compete for the LaLiga title.
Mbappé, in statements to Real Madrid's channel after the match, said: "This was a victory for the team; the real star of the match is the team and the group. We knew we needed to deliver a collective performance, and we prepared well during the recent matches, after achieving victories and showing good performance with a strong mentality."
He added: "Today we showed everything we have, and we went through difficult moments during the match, even at times when we were in control of the game. In the end, winning and staying in the league race is important. We have to keep working, as although the match was great, it only gives us three points, and there are still many points to collect to win the title."
Regarding his two goals in the match, and reaching 14 goals in 13 matches this season, alongside scoring his 100th goal for Real Madrid, he said: "I am very happy. Everyone knows that I love helping the team by scoring goals, but that is just a detail today, as the most important thing is the team's victory. I believe this win will give the group a lot of confidence, and as for the goals, I think I will score many more."
He continued about the fighting spirit shown by the team: "If we want to achieve success, we have to work as a group. The quality is here, and when you look at these players, anyone who says the team lacks quality is a liar, but we must play as a group and as one team."
Speaking about achieving five consecutive victories since the international break, Real Madrid's coach concluded: "This means nothing other than that we are Real Madrid, because Real Madrid is expected to win its matches, and that is what we are doing now. We must continue, as five victories do not mean much to us, because we want to win all upcoming matches. We sent a good message today, but we must not think that the season is over, as nothing has been decided yet. We need to rest first, then return next week with the same strength and focus against Racing Santander, and achieve another victory."
