Neymar sent off due to new law, Santos snatch thrilling draw

Santos managed to snatch a thrilling draw against Bahia with a score of 1-1, in the match held at Vila Belmiro, as part of the 32nd round of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. The encounter saw the Brazilian star Neymar sent off and featured dramatic twists until the final moments.

Santos started the match aggressively, but Bahia took the lead in the 37th minute of the first half, after Luciano Juba scored with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, taking advantage of the difficulty in handling the ball on the pitch affected by heavy rain.

Santos' task became more difficult at the start of the second half when the referee showed a red card to Neymar after a confrontation with Bahia's Rodrygo Nestor. The decision came after a video review, as Neymar covered his mouth with his hand during the discussion, leaving the home side to finish the match with ten players.

Despite being a man down and the poor condition of the pitch, Santos continued to press for an equaliser until defender Luan Pérez scored with a header in stoppage time, following a corner taken by Benjamin Rolhauser, to give his team a valuable point amid great fan celebration.

With this result, Santos have increased their tally to 46 points in 8th place, while Bahia have reached 50 points in 7th place.

Neymar has spoken out after the match, criticizing Rodrygo Nestor, a player from Bahia, and accusing him of exploiting anti-racism laws in a twisted manner for personal gain. He emphasized that what happened was an unfair act, pointing out that Nestor claimed things that did not occur.

Neymar added that what happened raises concerns about the possibility of malicious exploitation of laws designed to combat racism, warning against the repetition of such an incident in the future. He also acknowledged that he made a mistake when he covered his mouth during the verbal exchange between him and Néstor.
