Atlético draw with VfB Stuttgart despite being a man down in the UEFA Champions League
Atlético held Stuttgart to a 1-1 draw in the match that took place on Tuesday evening, as part of the third round of the group stage in the UEFA Champions League, after the Spanish team managed to come back from behind and then hold on after one of their players was sent off.
Jimmy Leveling opened the scoring for VfB Stuttgart in the 36th minute, giving the German side the lead after a strong start and sustained pressure on Atlético's goal.
Julián Alvarez successfully equalised for Atlético at the start of the second half, specifically in the 47th minute, benefiting from a pass from Ademola Lookman, bringing coach Diego Simeone's team back into the match.
Atlético's task became more difficult in the 64th minute when Morten Hjulmand received a red card, leaving the Spanish team to finish the match with ten players. Despite the German pressure in the remaining minutes, the visitors held on for a draw until the final whistle, with each team earning one point.
VfB Stuttgart have increased their tally to 7 points after winning their first two matches and then drawing with Atlético Madrid, while the Spanish team reached 4 points from one win, one draw, and one loss, sitting in fifteenth place.
