Referee for Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain match in the Champions League
UEFA has appointed English referee Michael Oliver to officiate the match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona, scheduled to take place next Tuesday at Parc des Princes, as part of the third round of the group stage in the UEFA Champions League for the 2026/2027 season.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Oliver has previously officiated a match between the two teams in last season's competition, which ended with Paris Saint-Germain winning 2-1. He also officiated the match between Real Madrid and Inter in the first round of the current edition, which the Spanish team won.
Tuesday's match will be the sixth officiated by Oliver for FC Barcelona in European competitions, making the Catalan club the team that the English referee has officiated the most matches for, tied with Real Madrid. Under his management, Barcelona has achieved one win, two draws, and two losses in five previous matches.
Oliver's last appearance for FC Barcelona was in a 2-2 draw against Atalanta on January 29, 2026, in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Barcelona suffered two defeats in their five matches under Oliver, one of which was a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the 2021/2022 season, while their only victory came against Dynamo Kyiv with a score of 1-0 in the previous season. The other draw was against Slavia Prague, ending 0-0 in the 2019/2020 season.
On the other hand, Barcelona will be the seventh match officiated by Oliver for Paris Saint-Germain in European competitions, after the French team achieved four victories, one draw, and one defeat in their previous six matches under his management. The last match he officiated for the Parisian team was against Stade Brestois 29 in the qualifying playoff for the knockout stages of the last edition, which ended with Paris Saint-Germain winning 7-0.
Marco Di Bello will take charge of the Video Assistant Referee technology during the upcoming clash between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona.
