Al-Shorta appoints Hussein Abdulwahid as head coach of the team
The Al-Shorta administrative body has announced the appointment of Hussein Abdulwahid as the head coach of the first football team, succeeding Tunisian coach Sami Al-Trabelsi, whose association with the club ended by mutual consent.
The club issued an official statement through its official platforms, stating:
The administrative body of Al-Shorta Sports Club announces the appointment of Captain Hussein Abdulwahid as the head coach of the first football team, following an agreement on all details related to the upcoming task.
"This decision comes from the management's confidence in national talents and their belief in Captain Hussein Abdulwahid's ability to lead the Green Lantern in the upcoming phase.
Captain Hussein Abdul Wahid will officially start his duties tomorrow, assisted by a coaching staff that will be announced later. The administrative body will provide all means of support and success to lead the team towards achieving its set goals.
"The administrative body calls on our loyal fans to continue their support and backing for the team as we have always known them to do in good times and bad."
Abdulwahid is one of the sons of Al-Shorta Club and one of its most prominent symbols in the last two decades, having previously represented the Green Lyre at various times as a player. He achieved many local accomplishments and titles with them and was the team's captain during a golden era.
As previously, Abdel Wahid has overseen the first team during earlier periods and has worked as part of the assistant coaching staff. He possesses a precise understanding of the details of the Sharqawi setup and the nature of the players, making him the most suitable choice for the current phase.
This move comes at a very critical time as Al-Shorta seek to achieve the desired results and advance towards the top positions on all fronts.
The team currently tops its group in the AFC Champions League 2 with a perfect 6 points after consecutive wins over Al-Sib and East Bengal. They sit in fifth place in the Iraqi Premier League table, awaiting the return to winning ways and a push towards the summit.
