AC Milan have suffered a major blow as Belgian player Alexis Saelemaekers requires surgery on his right ankle, coinciding with defender Matteo Gabbia suffering a muscle injury that will keep him out for at least 3 to 4 months.

Sky Sport Italia reports that Saelemaekers has decided to undergo surgery after a specialist consultation in Amsterdam on Monday, followed by tests that confirmed an issue with the stability of his right ankle, which he previously had surgery on in 2024.

The player suffered the issue during training on September 29, and he continues to feel pain. He is scheduled to undergo surgery today, Tuesday, October 13.

In contrast, medical examinations that Matteo Gabbia underwent after sustaining an injury during the match between AC Milan and US Sassuolo, which ended in a 1-1 draw, revealed that he has a tear in the left hamstring, with partial damage to the tendons. The club has not yet decided on the treatment method, as the defender will undergo a specialized medical consultation in the coming days to determine whether he will need surgical intervention or will rely on conservative treatment. He is expected to be sidelined for at least 3 to 4 months.

Jabia expressed his sadness over the injury, confirming through his social media accounts his desire to return in the best possible condition and as soon as possible to support his teammates. He also thanked his family, the club, the coaching staff, his teammates, and the fans for their support during this difficult time. AC Milan is preparing to face Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday, October 15, in the UEFA Europa League.
