Worrying injury for Matteo Gabbia raises concerns at AC Milan

AC Milan suffered a worrying blow during their match against US Sassuolo, within the sixth round of Serie A, as their defender Matteo Gabbia was forced to leave the pitch on a stretcher after around 20 minutes into the match due to a muscle injury that raised concerns about the potential length of his absence.

The injury occurred in the 17th minute, when Gabbia attempted to intercept a long ball sent by US Sassuolo players towards Lorente on the left side. He extended his left leg fully to challenge for the ball but was unable to reach it, before falling to the ground holding the back of his left thigh, unable to get back up.

The Italian defender left the pitch in tears on a stretcher, raising concerns about the severity of the injury, prompting the coach to substitute him with Koni De Winter. The nature of the injury and the expected duration of absence have not yet been determined, pending medical examinations in the coming days, which will reveal the extent of the damage and the necessary recovery period.

The injury comes at a tough time for Gabbia, who started the match against US Sassuolo as a starter for the first time this season, after recovering from previous physical issues, complicating AC Milan's options in the back line as they await the results of official tests.
