Gattuso defends his coaching career: I did not fail with AC Milan and SSC Napoli

Gennaro Gattuso, the head coach of Lazio, has rejected judgments that label him as a failure in his coaching career, stressing that the assessment of his experience should be based on numbers and results, rather than general impressions.

Gattuso stated: "It seems like I have failed everywhere I have gone, but there is only one winner. We live in a country that does not analyze things enough, and perhaps I pay the price for my personality when I was a player, as people think I am still the same person."

The Italian coach stated that he does not see all his previous experiences as negative, highlighting that some details determined the fate of his teams, as he lost the chance to qualify for the UEFA Champions League by just one point with AC Milan. The same happened with SSC Napoli, which finished the 2020-2021 season in fifth place with 77 points.

Gattuso reflected on his experience with Hajduk Split, mentioning the loss of the league title in the final round, despite competing until the end of the season with a team that relied on several young players.

He confirmed that the evaluation of a coach's work should not be limited to titles, but should also include the development of players, the level of the team, and what he has contributed during his experience.

Gattuso concluded his remarks by affirming his commitment to his beliefs and passion for coaching, considering that football is influenced by details and crucial moments, and that missing goals in the final yards does not necessarily mean the failure of the entire effort.
