Bassem Qassem sets Al-Zawraa's targets against Qatar in the Gulf Champions League
The official press conference for the match between Al-Zawraa and their hosts Qatar SC was held ahead of the first round of the Gulf Clubs Champions League, where the head coach of Al-Zawraa, Basim Qasim, and the team's captain, former international defender Ali Adnan, spoke about the Iraqi club's ambitions and its serious desire to wash away the recent domestic defeat and to kick off strongly in the regional competition.
Bassem Qassem said: "We enter our first match with the ambition of achieving a positive result and making our fans happy, in line with their aspirations and the name of Al-Zawraa Club. We have completed our preparations for the match and look forward to showing a level that reflects the value of the club and the ambitions of its supporters."
He added: "We are establishing a new phase through this match, and we look forward to it being a positive start in our journey in the tournament, especially since we have a good understanding of Gulf tournament matches, and we are aware of the intense competition in them."
He explained about the technical value of the current edition: "The current edition of the tournament will be more competitive than the previous one, given the development of the level of the participating teams and the intensity of the competition. However, the name of Al-Zawraa Club and its large fanbase give us an additional motivation and ambition to compete for the title, and we will work to present what befits the history and status of the club."
Team captain Ali Adnan emphasized the need to rise from the previous setback, stating: "We must rectify the result of the last match against Duhok and achieve a quick compensation in this very important encounter, as we aim to reconcile with our large fanbase and deliver what meets their broad aspirations."
Adnan confirmed at the end of his talk: "The Iraqi league is currently experiencing its best times, and it is considered one of the best in the region. As players, it is our responsibility to deliver a real reaction in tomorrow's match."
Al-Zawraa's delegation concluded their final technical and physical preparations this evening at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, which will host the match. The coaching staff made the final tactical touches to the starting lineup in anticipation of the kickoff tomorrow, Tuesday, at 5:45 PM Baghdad and Mecca time.
