Duhok thrashes Al Zawraa with a historic three-goal haul in the league
Duhok secured a significant and deserved victory over their visitors Al Zawraa with a score of three goals to nil, in the match that took place this Thursday evening at Duhok Stadium during the ninth round of the Iraqi Premier League, in a major surprise that shook the standings.
The match began with intense pressure from the home side, and the Eagles of the Mountains did not wait long to open the scoring. In the 3rd minute, Duhok took an early lead through a header from player Aso Mohammed, igniting the stands of Duhok Stadium.
After the early goal, the proceedings of the first half were largely balanced, with Al Zawraa being better at times and Duhok better at others. The first half witnessed significant excitement, with numerous tackles and issues between the players of both teams, accompanied by strong interventions and repeated protests against the referee's decisions.
In the 40th minute, Al Zawraa equalised through player Isian Adem, and the players celebrated joyfully. However, the referee, after reviewing the video technology, decided to disallow the goal for offside, allowing Duhok to maintain their lead until the end of the first half.
In the second half, Al Zawraa struggled with giving away large spaces at the back, which Duhok exploited perfectly thanks to the speed of their attackers.
Younes Hamoud added the second goal for Duhok in the 49th minute, complicating matters for Al Zawraa and worsening their woes.
Al Zawraa attempted to come back into the match and pressed with all their lines, but the spaces they left in defense were deadly. In the 81st minute, Aso Mohammed brought Duhok their third goal with a beautiful strike that dashed Al Zawraa's hopes completely and confirmed the superiority of the home side.
With this big win, Duhok has raised its tally to 12 points, jumping to seventh place. This victory helps them regain their balance after a disappointing start, where they found themselves in eleventh place with 9 points.
Al Zawraa's tally has stalled at 18 points after an unexpected defeat, dropping them to third place. They missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Al-Karma and lost their second place on a difficult night for the Al-Nawras fans.
