Koundé surpasses Abidal to become the French player with most appearances for Barcelona
Jules Koundé has made history at FC Barcelona by becoming the French player with the most appearances for the club, reaching 194 matches and surpassing his compatriot Erik Abidal, according to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo".
French defender Jules Koundé celebrated his achievement by scoring the third goal in FC Barcelona's victory over Getafe, securing the team's eighth consecutive win in LaLiga. This came at a time when Koundé's standing in coach Hans Flick's plans had diminished, as he had sat on the bench in the previous three matches before starting against Getafe.
After the match, Flick praised his player, stating: "I value him highly, he is a professional and trains continuously to improve," while also confirming the players' acceptance of competition within a squad full of talent.
For his part, Koundé said: "I feel good physically and mentally, and in the second half, I couldn't leave the pitch without scoring a goal."
Jules Koundé joined FC Barcelona from Sevilla in 2022, winning seven titles with the team, including three in LaLiga, three in the Supercopa de España, and one in the Copa del Rey. He has scored 11 goals and provided 22 assists during his time at the club, and his current contract runs until June 30, 2030.
