Eikert escapes immediate suspension, suspended ban and fine in spying case
The FA has imposed a six-week ban on Southampton manager Tonda Eikert (33 years old) from all football activities, effective until the end of the 2027-2028 season, along with a £28,000 fine and a reprimand.
Eikert remains free to continue his work, including facing Portsmouth FC on Sunday, provided he does not repeat any similar violation. If he is found to be involved again in monitoring the opponents' training, the suspension will be activated immediately.
The referee's decision came after the coach admitted to overseeing or delegating the monitoring of Middlesbrough, Oxford, and Ipswich's training last season, which led to Southampton's elimination from the promotion play-offs and deprived them of a chance to reach the Premier League worth around £200 million, with a four-point deduction this season.
The disciplinary committee described Eikert as an 'exceptional witness', praising his sincere remorse, and concluded that there was no organized system for spying. The club welcomed the ruling, affirming that it has suffered enough, while owner Dragan Solak praised the course of the English Football Association.
