Former teammate of Durán: He told us "I’m already rich and don’t need to run"
Brazilian Fred, the former Fenerbahçe player, revealed amusing details from the time he spent alongside Colombian John Durán at the Turkish club, confirming that the current SL Benfica striker sometimes approached training with indifference.
Fred stated in comments on the "Sharla" podcast, when asked about the craziest teammate he has played alongside: "He doesn't care about anything. We used to joke with him and say: 'Duran, come on, let's train and run,' and he would reply: 'I'm already rich, I don't need to run.'"
Clube Atlético Mineiro player added: "At first, he would come with us, then he stopped doing that," pointing out that Durán had a cheerful personality, although his behavior would sometimes annoy him.
Fred also talked about the financial situation of the Colombian striker, who transferred from Aston Villa to Al Nassr in January 2025, jokingly saying: "I told him: you will get more money, and he replied: the more, the better. He has bought all of Colombia."
Despite this, Fred emphasized that he is a 'great striker and a good person', adding: 'You can see that his heart is kind'. He also noted that the player has become more mature, saying: 'It's also a matter of mentality, and now he will become a father, and I hope he has calmed down.'
Duran played for Fenerbahçe during the first half of last season, scoring five goals in 21 matches, before moving to Zenit in the second half of the season. With SL Benfica, he has scored two goals in 12 matches so far, starting two of them as a starter.
