Gela: Inter wanted to sign me but I didn't hesitate.. I dream of Europa League final against Juventus
Spanish defender Mario Gila spoke about the behind-the-scenes of his transfer to AC Milan, his goals with the club, along with his memories with Real Madrid and his ambition to join the Spain national team.
Gela stated during his participation in the sports festival in Trento: "In the summer, there were many teams that wanted to sign me, but I chose AC Milan. Inter also tried to sign me, but I didn't hesitate."
AC Milan are aiming for big goals this season, including winning the UEFA Europa League and returning to the UEFA Champions League. "We are a developing team, and we want to achieve great objectives. I dream of playing in the UEFA Europa League final against Juventus," he added.
The defender praised his coach Ruben Amorim, stating: "We have a coach who promotes attacking football and wants us to dominate the opponent. AC Milan's history demands that we deliver a good performance and aim for the top." He also confirmed his ability to play in a defense consisting of three or four players, noting that changing the tactical setup "motivates him to learn new things."
Gila touched on his time at Real Madrid, stating: "My debut with Real Madrid was special, and I will always be grateful to Carlo Ancelotti." He revealed that Sergio Ramos was his idol at the royal club, while Alessandro Nesta is his favorite defender, alongside Paolo Maldini.
Regarding his international ambitions, Gela said: "My goal is to perform well with AC Milan and to reach the Spain national team." The defender has been called up to the national team once without participating in any matches, confirming that his chance of making an international appearance will depend on his level with AC Milan. He also praised Lamine Yamal, stating: "We have the best player in the world, Lamine Yamal."
Gela also pointed out that Inter, in his view, seem to be ahead in the Serie A race, but he believes that AC Milan can compete strongly with the other teams, thanks to a group that includes several leaders, among them Luka Modrić, Matteo Gabbia, and Mike Maignan.
