Belghali reveals reason for rejecting Qatar offer and talks about World Cup dream

Algerian international Rafik Belghali, a player for Torino, has revealed key moments in his career, explaining that he previously rejected an offer to move to Qatar, preferring to continue in Europe with the aim of developing his level and building a strong career that serves his ambitions with the Algerian national team.

Balgali explained in an interview with the site "Toro.it", close to Torino, that he received the Qatari offer during his time playing with Mechelen in Belgium, while he was undergoing treatment for an injury, but he decided not to leave the European continent.

The Algerian player stated that he did not consider moving to Qatar as an option that aligned with his goals at the time, especially since he aspired to represent the Algerian national team even though he had not yet received his international opportunity. Therefore, he preferred to continue his journey in Europe to develop and build a good football career.

Belghali touched on his first participation in the FIFA World Cup with the Algerian national team, which also saw him score his first international goals against Austria, affirming that this moment represents one of the most enduring milestones in his football memory.

The Torino defender described participating in the FIFA World Cup as a dream he has had since childhood, stating that appearing in the global tournament will remain in his memory for the rest of his life, considering it the best moment of his career so far.

Bilgali went on to talk about his new experience in the Serie A, comparing it to the Belgian league where he began his career in Europe. He pointed out that the competition in Italy is characterized by its intensity and the high number of matches, along with the large fan attendance, which creates a clear distinction between the two leagues.

The Algerian player revealed his childhood idol, stating that Riyad Mahrez, the former captain of the Algerian national team, was one of the key players who inspired him, before their relationship later evolved into a camaraderie within the national team.

Belghali explained that he has been a fan of Mahrez since he was young, especially after the Algerian player managed to build an impressive career in European stadiums. He considers that playing alongside him in the national team represents a different experience for him.

On a personal level, the Torino player confirmed that his goal this season is to provide an addition and help his team develop from week to week, while striving to replicate the level he showed last season with Verona, and giving his utmost to serve the group.
