Diomande's numbers reveal modest first start with Real Madrid
Ivory Coast's Yan Diomande made his first start for Real Madrid during the 4-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano, but he appeared limited and did not contribute much during the match, according to Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo".
Yan Diomande played 72 minutes and was among the top five players for Real Madrid according to Opta statistics. He was the second most active player in the team for crosses with three attempts, behind Arda Güler, who participated for 23 minutes and sent five crosses.
The Ivorian player made 46 tackles during the match, managing just one shot that was not on target. He created two chances and succeeded in three out of four dribbles he attempted, numbers that reflect his limited impact on the game.
José Mourinho stated after the match that Yan Diomande will improve gradually, explaining that he has limited experience in top-level European football and still has much to learn tactically.
In contrast, the Spanish newspaper sees that what Yan Diomande has offered compared to Júlio makes the Turkish player currently superior in the competition for a starting place in Real Madrid's lineup.
