Flick gives Christensen another chance with Barcelona

Andreas Christensen is regaining his presence with FC Barcelona after starting and playing 90 minutes, plus three minutes of added time, during the 5-1 victory over Feyenoord in the opening match of the UEFA Champions League for the 2026/2027 season.

The Spanish newspaper "Sport" pointed out that the Danish defender's participation carried special importance, as he played more minutes in one match than his total appearances in the competition last season, when he participated in four matches for a total of only 77 minutes.

Andreas Christensen has had a positive change this season, having completed the pre-season with the team without issues. He started against Elche and Rayo Vallecano, playing 90 minutes in each match, before coming on for over half an hour against Valencia and then returning to the starting lineup against Feyenoord.

Andreas Christensen had been absent for 158 days due to a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, before returning on May 23 against Valencia. Since then, he has begun to regain his form and earn more minutes.

Flick sees Christensen as a reliable option in central defense, especially with the number of matches FC Barcelona has this season. The Danish defender is entering his fifth season with the club after renewing his contract until June 30, 2028, benefiting from his experience, defensive reading, and ability to build play from the back.
