Alex Meret ruled out for SSC Napoli due to injury
SSC Napoli have suffered another injury blow as goalkeeper Alex Meret was forced off with a muscle issue during their match against Arsenal in the first round of the UEFA Champions League. The match ended in a defeat for the Italian side, losing by a goal to nil.
Alex Meret felt pain during the first half, leading the coaching staff, led by Massimiliano Allegri, to decide against risking him. Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić replaced him at the start of the second half.
Italian reports indicate that medical examinations will determine the nature of the injury and the goalkeeper's absence, as SSC Napoli has yet to issue an official medical statement confirming a tear in the left calf muscle or specifying a two-week absence.
Alex Meret's injury comes at a difficult time for SSC Napoli, who lost to Arsenal due to a goal from Martin Ødegaard in the 75th minute. The team is also struggling with other injuries, notably Alisson Santos and Scott McTominay, which adds to Massimiliano Allegri's troubles at the start of the season.
