Battle between Botafogo and Vasco for Matheus Gonçalves from Al Ahly FC

The competition has intensified between Botafogo and Vasco da Gama to sign Brazilian Matheus Gonçalves from Al Ahly FC, with both clubs keen on a loan deal that includes an option to buy.

Botafogo have made a stronger financial offer, with the proposed salary for the player approaching one million Brazilian reais per month, which is nearly double the amount offered by Vasco da Gama.

Vasco is trying to compensate for the financial gap with a different approach, relying on Jonsalves' connection to the club as a supporter, which gives the team a morale boost during negotiations.

Al Ahly FC signed Jonsalves from Flamengo in September 2025 for €8 million, which is approximately 50 million Brazilian reais at the time of the deal.

The Brazilian player has signed a contract with Al Ahly FC that runs until June 2027, while Botafogo and Vasco da Gama are seeking to secure his services temporarily, with a clause for a permanent purchase.

Both Brazilian clubs believe that Gonsalves' return to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A could give him a new opportunity, especially since he is a graduate of the Flamengo academy and possesses the potential that has made him a subject of interest.
