Mexican federation monitors Napoli talent Antonio Vergara

Reports have revealed a surprise regarding the future of Antonio Vergara, a midfielder for SSC Napoli. Italian journalist Vito Di Palma mentioned during his appearance on ESPN that the player has Mexican assets, which could open the door for him to represent Mexico in the future.

According to reports, this information has begun to attract the interest of the Mexican Football Federation, which may work to verify the player's family tree and the documents proving a Mexican connection, before determining the feasibility of him obtaining Mexican citizenship and meeting the requirements to represent the national team according to FIFA regulations.

Firgara, 23, was born in Italy and is considered one of the rising talents at SSC Napoli, having progressed through the club's academy from a young age. He also represented the Italy U19 national team in a friendly against Türkiye in 2022, which does not prevent him from representing another national team, as the participation was at the youth level and in a friendly.

The midfielder is enjoying a rise in form with SSC Napoli, having secured a place in the first-team plans, which led the club to extend his contract until June 2031.
