Tunisian player faces 4 years in prison

Tunisian player Mohamed Mouhli, of Espérance de Tunis, faces a serious legal crisis that could threaten his future off the pitch, as the public prosecutor in Belgium has requested his imprisonment over a case involving the assault of a woman dating back to 2023.

The case dates back to November 2023, when Mouhli was playing for Royal Liège in Belgium, where he got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend at her workplace, before the situation escalated into physical assault.

According to the information related to the case, the player, who has Tunisian and Belgian roots, smashed a storage room door during the incident before physically assaulting the young woman, causing her to fall to the ground and prompting her to go to the police to file a formal complaint.

Following the complaint, Belgian authorities suspended the player and he was investigated for several hours, before being temporarily released, pending the completion of judicial procedures and consideration of the case before the courts.

The prosecution demands a four-year prison sentence for Al-Mohli.

As the legal case progresses and more details of the incident emerge, Belgian prosecutors have raised their demands, having previously proposed a penalty limited to community service.

The prosecution is currently seeking a four-year prison sentence for Mohamed Mouhli, alongside a financial penalty, while the victim, aged 26, is demanding financial compensation exceeding €30,000 due to the physical and psychological damages she claims to have suffered.

In contrast, the player's defense is striving to avoid a prison sentence, as they are requesting a suspended sentence or the adoption of an alternative penalty, including conditional release and community service.

The final verdict in the case is expected to be announced on October 2, 2026, when it will be determined whether the player will face a prison sentence or if alternatives proposed by his defense team will be accepted.
