Sunderland officially announces the signing of Malick Fofana
Sunderland have officially signed Belgian winger Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyon on a long-term deal, making him the fifth signing for the team during the summer transfer window.
Sunderland have stated on their official website that Fofana, aged 21, is distinguished by his speed, dribbling skills, and direct attacking style. He is capable of playing on the left wing or in a central attacking position.
Wesley Fofana joined KAA Gent's academy at the age of nine and progressed through the club's youth teams, before making his professional debut in the Pro League Super Cup in 2022. He has since appeared in over 60 matches for the first team.
The Belgian winger has joined Olympique Lyon in January 2024, quickly becoming a key player for the team. He has played 82 matches with the French club, scoring 18 goals and providing 6 assists.
At the international level, Fofana has represented Belgium in various age categories from under 15 to under 21, before being called up for the first time to the senior national team in October 2024, making his international debut against Italy in the UEFA Nations League.
