Corinthians fans attack child over Neymar shirt
An 8-year-old boy and his family faced harassment from some Sport Club Corinthians Paulista fans after the team's match against Santos FC in the Brazilian league, following the boy receiving a shirt from Neymar, despite being a supporter of Corinthians.
Neymar headed to the stands after Santos FC's 1-0 away win, presenting his shirt to a young fan, a gesture that angered some supporters despite the child cheering for the opposing team.
Videos have surfaced showing a group of fans directing insults and hostile gestures towards a child and his family, prompting them to leave the stadium through the tunnel leading to the changing rooms under heavy security.
Sport Club Corinthians Paulista has strongly condemned the incident, stating: "There are limits that cannot be crossed, and assault or aggression towards a child is one of them. The passion of the club, competition, and feelings of football should not override respect and safety, especially when it comes to a child."
Neymar expressed his dissatisfaction with the incident, saying: "There is nothing wrong with a small child loving a player from another team. We cannot treat a child this way."
