Chelsea Signs Emiliano Martinez

Chelsea has officially announced the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, in a new move to strengthen their goalkeeping position. The 33-year-old keeper has signed a contract with the Blues that will run for three seasons.

Martinez stated: "I am very happy to be at this club, and I am looking forward to starting my journey here. I want to achieve success, as I am someone who wants to win in everything I do, and I want to bring this mentality to Chelsea."

The Argentinian goalkeeper stated: "I am a player full of passion and I always play with my heart. I will give 100% in every match and every training session, to make the club, my teammates, and the fans feel proud."

Martinez began his football career at the Argentine Independiente academy, before moving to Arsenal in August 2010 at the age of 17. After several loan spells to gain experience, he got the chance to play regularly with the London club during the 2019-2020 season, starting in the last 11 matches of the season and contributing to Arsenal's FA Cup triumph.

At the start of the following season, Martinez celebrated winning the Community Shield with Arsenal before moving to Aston Villa in September 2020, marking an important phase in his career. During six seasons with the club, he made 256 appearances and established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and the world. He also led Aston Villa to win the Europa League last May.

On the international stage, Martinez made his debut for the Argentina national team in June 2021, and since then he has become the starting goalkeeper for his country, participating in 67 international matches. He has achieved significant milestones with Argentina, most notably winning the Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024, along with lifting the World Cup in 2022.

Emiliano Martinez's individual achievements culminated in winning the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper in the world, during the Ballon d'Or ceremonies for 2023 and 2024. He arrives at Chelsea with significant experience on both domestic and international levels, with aspirations to compete for more titles with the Blues.
