Lille OSC announced on Wednesday that they have officially signed Paraguayan international goalkeeper Orlando Gil, who joins from Argentine club San Lorenzo.

Jil, 26, has signed a contract with Lille that will keep him at the club until 2031, where he will serve as the backup goalkeeper to Turkish player Berke Özer.

Jill made a striking impression with the Paraguay national team during the 2026 World Cup, keeping clean sheets against Turkey and Australia. He also shone in the penalty shootout against Germany, saving two penalties, before delivering a standout performance against France in the Round of 16, despite Paraguay's exit after a narrow defeat from a penalty converted by Kylian Mbappé.

During his time with San Lorenzo in Argentina, Giel has established himself as one of the standout goalkeepers in the league, also boasting a remarkable ability to score several goals from free-kicks, having started his career as a midfielder before transitioning to goalkeeping.

Giel said after his move to Lille: "I am very grateful for this opportunity. It is a big challenge for me to join a high-level and competitive club, and I will do my best when the chance to play comes."
