Official: Milan Loans Athekami to Lyon

AC Milan has officially announced the loan transfer of Swiss defender Zakari Athekami to Olympique Lyon for the 2026/2027 season.

Both clubs stated in an official announcement that Athekami will join Lyon for one season, with no option to buy the player permanently or extend the loan period.

The agreement between Milan and Lyon was reached last week, before Athekami underwent medical examinations and signed his contract to join the French team.

The official statement indicated that Lyon will cover the player's full salary during the loan period, with a return to Milan in June 2027.

Athekami has joined AC Milan from Swiss side Young Boys for €10 million, plus incentives, with the Swiss club retaining 10% of any future transfer fee for the player.

Athekami has featured in 29 matches for Milan across all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting two others. His contract with the Italian club runs until June 2030, and Milan hopes he can regain his form during his stint with Lyon.
