Marco Faraj Takes on Serie A Challenge with Venezia

Iraqi international Marco Faraj is preparing to embark on his first experience in the Italian Serie A with Venezia next season, after playing a crucial role in the team's promotion from Serie B following a long and arduous campaign.

Faraj was part of the Iraqi national team in the 2026 World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where he participated in two matches against Norway and France, confirming his place among the options for Australian coach Graham Arnold.

The 22-year-old player began his international career in December 2024, when Spanish coach Jesús Casas called him up to participate in the Gulf Cup "Gulf 26" in Kuwait, before quickly establishing himself in the ranks of the Lions of Mesopotamia.

Following Iraq's exit from the group stage, Faraj took a short break with his family before returning to training with Venezia in preparation for a new challenge that is considered the toughest of his professional career.

With his promotion alongside Venezia, Faraj becomes the third Iraqi player to participate in Serie A after Ali Adnan and Ali Jassim. He aims to secure a starting position in the team and deliver performances worthy of the club's history.

Ali Adnan, the former Udinese and Atalanta player, praised Faraj's potential, stating: "He has all the qualities to succeed in Italy, having grown up in a European environment and being able to handle the professional atmosphere. Additionally, having his family by his side will provide him with significant psychological stability. The most important thing is to remain patient and determined, even if he finds himself on the bench."

Faraj only participated in two matches with Venezia last season after joining in January, due to recurring injuries to his quadriceps and not being fully fit.

The player is now looking to overcome injuries and gain the trust of the coaching staff, aiming to be a strong addition to his team and the national squad in the upcoming phase.
