Belgian FA Sacks Rudy Garcia as National Team Coach

The Belgian Football Union announced today the dismissal of French coach Rudi Garcia from his position as head coach of the national team, thus ending his tenure with the "Red Devils" after approximately a year and a half in charge.

The decision to sack the coach came after the Belgian national team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, losing to Spain 2-1, a match during which Garcia faced widespread criticism.

Roberto Garcia took over as Belgium's head coach at the beginning of 2025, leading the national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. He also succeeded in maintaining their position in the top tier of the UEFA Nations League, before his journey ended at the quarter-final stage of the World Cup.

The Belgian Football Union is expected to initiate procedures to contract a new coach to lead the national team in upcoming challenges, primarily the qualifiers for the UEFA Euro 2028.
