Koubarci Establishes Himself Among World Cup's Best Defenders
Pau Koubarci is making a significant impact in the 2026 World Cup, confirming his place as one of the standout defenders of the tournament with his exceptional performance and impressive statistics that highlight his influence with the Spanish national team.
According to "Mundo Deportivo," the Barcelona defender has emerged as one of the tournament's biggest surprises at just 19 years old, showcasing an extraordinary campaign with the Spanish team.
Koubarci is the only player under 20 who has played every minute for Spain in the World Cup, and the team has not conceded a single goal so far. He is also one of only three players to have participated in all minutes for the national team, alongside Unai Simon and Marc Cucurella.
The statistics reflect the confidence that coach Luis de la Fuente has in the young defender, who has only misplayed 17 passes out of 449 attempted throughout the tournament, achieving a remarkable accuracy rate of 96%. In the match against Portugal, he completed 71 passes out of 77, including 34 in the opponent's half.
Koubarci's excellence is not limited to playmaking; he has also shown strong defensive capabilities, recording 19 ball recoveries and 23 successful defensive interventions, along with five key passes. The partnership he formed with Aymeric Laporte has proven effective, as reflected in the coaching staff's choices, with Marc Pubill receiving only one minute of play so far, while Eric Garcia has yet to feature.
The Spanish newspaper believes that what Pau Koubarci is delivering goes beyond numbers, as he stands out for his ability to play the ball out from the back, break through opponent lines, and handle defensive situations with composure, further solidifying his status among the top defenders in the 2026 World Cup.
