Ounahi: From Marseille Disappointment to Morocco Revival
After his impressive performance with Morocco in the World Cup, where the "Atlas Lions" reached the semifinals, Azzedine Ounahi became one of the most sought-after names in the transfer market. He was linked with a move to Barcelona before ultimately transferring from Angers to Marseille during the winter transfer window.
Despite a promising start at Marseille, where he scored on his debut, Ounahi's journey did not unfold as many had anticipated following his stunning displays in the World Cup. He struggled with consistency in the starting lineup and faced difficulties adapting to coach Igor Tudor's tactical approach.
Ounahi's challenges continued into the next season, leading Marseille to loan him to Greek side Panathinaikos in the summer of 2024. He later moved to Girona in Spain, where he managed to regain his form and shine once again, benefiting from a more liberated attacking role on the pitch.
Despite Girona's relegation, Ounahi emerged as one of the top midfielders in La Liga, confirming his strong comeback by scoring two goals and earning the Man of the Match award in Morocco's game against Canada, which ended in a 3-0 victory for the "Atlas Lions" in the World Cup, showcasing his remarkable return to prominence.
