Ballack Identifies Germany's National Team Issues
Former German star Michael Ballack believes that the national team has lost a significant part of its identity, particularly in terms of mental toughness and the ability to handle difficult moments during matches.
Ballack stated: "Our characteristics that have always distinguished Germany have diminished. This team struggles to cope with tough situations. We start well, playing 10-20 excellent minutes, and maybe we score a goal. But with the first attack we concede a goal from, or if we make a mistake, everything collapses - and then you wonder: why?"
He further explained the responsibility within the team: "The main reason is the players. The coach plays a crucial role in such a system, but the players also bear a significant part of the responsibility on the pitch - or rather, they should. This self-responsibility is essential."
Ballack concluded by emphasizing the importance of discipline and mutual reliance among players: "When players look at each other, that's when you know who you can rely on."
