Havertz: I Can't Find the Words to Describe How I Feel, This is What We Need
German national team striker Kai Havertz expressed his deep sorrow following his team's exit from the 2026 World Cup after losing in a penalty shootout to the Paraguayan team, following a 1-1 draw at the end of regular and extra time.
Havertz said in his speech: "I can't find the words to describe how I feel. This is my second participation in the World Cup, and for the second time, we fail in this way. The recent tournaments have been disastrous for us."
He added, "It's my second World Cup, and we've messed it up for the second time. I'm in shock."
He continued: "The only thing I can say is: I'm sorry. We, the players, need to have an honest reflection with ourselves and review everything that has happened."
He concluded: "We represent a great nation with a rich history in football, and we should have delivered a performance worthy of this legacy, but we failed to achieve that."
