The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the appointment of Egyptian referee Mahmoud Ashour as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the Mexico vs. Ecuador match, scheduled as part of the Round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup, continuing the presence of Egyptian referees in the tournament.
