Malo Gusto's Stance on Moving to Manchester City

Monday 29-06-2026
Manchester City has received the approval of Frenchman Malo Gusto, Chelsea's full-back, to join its ranks during the summer transfer window, paving the way for negotiations with Chelsea to complete the deal.

The 'Foot Mercato' site reported that Gusto, currently in the United States with the French national team to participate in the 2026 World Cup, has agreed to move to Manchester City, which has made him a priority to strengthen the right-back position as part of the team's rebuilding.

The proximity of Italian coach Enzo Maresca is one of the main factors that encouraged the player to take this step, having previously supervised his training at Chelsea between July 2024 and last January. Maresca wishes to rely on him as one of the key elements in his new project, while Gusto is eager to work with him again after their joint triumph in the Club World Cup last summer.

Despite Manchester City reaching an agreement with the player, negotiations with Chelsea appear more complicated, especially since Chelsea does not want to give up one of its prominent players, in addition to Gusto being under contract until 2030.

The same source added that the player continues to focus entirely on his journey with the French national team in the World Cup, as he prepares to face Sweden in the Round of 32, while negotiations between the two clubs are expected to accelerate in the coming weeks.
