Austria Begins World Cup Campaign with Victory Over Jordan

The Austrian national team began its 2026 World Cup campaign with a valuable 3-1 victory over the Jordanian team, in the match that brought them together in the first round of the group stage.

The Austrian team succeeded in taking the lead during the first half through Romano Schmid, who opened the scoring in the 21st minute, ending his team's first half with a 1-0 lead.

At the start of the second half, the Jordanian team returned to the game atmosphere after Ali Alwan equalized in the 50th minute, bringing the match back to square one and giving his team a strong boost to continue competing for the match points.

Attempts continued from both sides until the 77th minute, when defender Yazan Al-Arab scored an own goal against the Jordanian team, before Marko Arnautovic confirmed his team's victory by scoring the third goal from a penalty in the 90+12th minute.

With this victory, the Austrian team raised its tally to three points, ranking second in Group Ten, which also includes Argentina and Algeria.

On the other hand, the Jordanian team remained without points in third place, while the Argentine team tops the group standings with three points after defeating Algeria 3-0.
