Sergej Barbarez, the head coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, confirmed that his team benefited from luck in their match against the Canadian national team, which ended in a 1-1 draw in the first round of the group stage in the 2026 World Cup.

The match took place at Toronto Stadium, where the draw decided the encounter between the two teams at the beginning of their journey in the tournament hosted by the United States in partnership with Mexico and Canada, with 48 teams participating for the first time in World Cup history.

Sergej Barbarez said: 'When you are leading until the last ten minutes and do not win, you must feel sorry.'

He added: 'At the same time, we must be realistic. We were lucky, but we missed chances worse than theirs, and in the end, I believe the 1-1 draw was a deserved result for both teams, and it is a valuable point for us in the group stage, which is our goal.'

He continued: 'This draw paves the way for us, and we know how the group standings will be from now, but we are not here for calculations; we have two matches ahead, and we will strive to win them.'

He concluded his remarks by saying: 'Every player has their role, and we have a plan for each one of them, and that is why they are here. It is good for a player to repay the favor on the field, and everyone is doing their part in the end.'
