Canada Coach: The First Half Was Disappointing, We Need to Play Stronger
Jesse Marsch, the head coach of the Canadian national team, urged his players to play with more enthusiasm and to raise their performance level in the upcoming matches of the 2026 World Cup, following a draw in their first appearance in the tournament.
The United States will host the 2026 World Cup in partnership with Mexico and Canada, featuring 48 teams for the first time in the history of the tournament, from June 11 to July 19.
The Canadian team drew with Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-1 in a match held at Toronto Stadium as part of the first round of the group stage.
Jesse Marsch said: "I am disappointed with the first half, I felt we were hesitant and didn't play with the strength I hoped for. We need to find a way to play with intense enthusiasm and be a tough opponent, we talked about this after the match."
Marsch added: "In the second half, we felt we were in control of the game, we were pressing hard, then the substitutes came in and made a big difference, and we noticed a decline in the team's level."
The Canadian national team's head coach continued: "From the moment we stepped onto the field in the second half, the situation was different. I told the players that we need to absorb these lessons and learn from them quickly."
He continued his statements: "We can still win, and this is an important factor to continue in the tournament. We need to ensure that our next performance reflects what we learned today and benefit from it."
Regarding the fan atmosphere in Toronto, Marsch said: "The city was vibrant this week, and we enjoyed being here a lot."
He concluded his statements by saying: "All the players who wore the Canada jersey performed wonderfully, and we need the same level in the upcoming matches. We must give them confidence and help them believe in their ability to achieve victory."
