Benfica Club announced the appointment of Portuguese coach Marco Silva as the head coach of the first team with a contract extending until 2028, with an option to extend for an additional season, succeeding coach José Mourinho who joined Real Madrid.
Marco Silva arrives at Benfica after a distinguished coaching career spanning over 15 years, during which he achieved notable successes in Portugal, Greece, and England, making him one of the most prominent Portuguese coaches in recent years.
Silva began his coaching career with Estoril, where he led the team from the second division to the Portuguese Premier League, before achieving a remarkable feat by qualifying for the Europa League in two consecutive seasons.
He then moved to Sporting Lisbon, where he won the Portuguese Cup in the 2014-2015 season, before having a successful stint with Olympiacos, leading them to win the Greek League title in the 2015-2016 season after a clear dominance in the competition.
The Portuguese coach also had several experiences in the English Premier League with Hull City, Watford, and Everton, before achieving significant success with Fulham.
