Luis Enrique: We clearly deserved to win

Luis Enrique, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, expressed his disappointment at his team's 2-1 loss to AS Monaco, stating that the result does not reflect the course of the match and that his team clearly deserved to win.

Luis Enrique stated after the match: "This is the hardest time for a coach when they lose and have to talk after the game, but I accept my responsibility as a coach, of course. And if you want me to talk about the match, I am happy with what I saw. It is clear that we are at the beginning of the season and not at our full level yet, but I saw a lot of positive things. Today, for me, we clearly deserved to win."

The Spanish coach added: "We shot 23 times, with 10 shots on target, and our expected goals ratio was clearly in our favor, 2.5 to 0.5 against AS Monaco. But this is football; it’s a wonderful sport." He pointed out that his team was the better side in terms of creating chances, while AS Monaco took their few opportunities perfectly.

Luis Enrique responded to the possibility of attributing the loss to physical decline: "As for luck, this is not our time. I think it is similar to what happened to us in some matches over the past three years, like the encounters with Newcastle, Atlético Madrid, and Sporting CP. These are matches you can lose when luck is not on your side."

Regarding the defensive performance, he clarified: "I am not worried. I say this honestly. AS Monaco only shot twice and scored two goals, which is unusual. We will see during the season how many points we will earn. I was also impressed by what AS Monaco showed."
