Will Modric retire after the World Cup?

The Croatian star Luka Modric is seriously considering ending his football career after the upcoming World Cup, in light of recent developments within AC Milan, most notably the failure to qualify for the Champions League and the departure of coach Massimiliano Allegri.

The newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport" explained that Modric had set a number of conditions for continuing his career on the field, the most important of which is the presence of a competitive project that provides him with the motivation to keep playing despite his advancing age, especially as he will turn 41 next September.

Milan is undergoing a comprehensive rebuilding phase following changes in the club's management and technical staff, making the idea of competing for titles in the upcoming season seem far from the vision that the Croatian midfielder aspired to.

The departure of Massimiliano Allegri also played a significant role in Modric's thinking about his future, given the strong relationship they had within the club. The Italian coach was one of the main reasons that led the player to consider continuing with Milan.

The report indicated that AC Milan's management still has the option to extend Modric's contract for an additional year after the end of his current contract on June 30, given Gerry Cardinale and Ibrahimovic's desire to keep the Croatian star on the team.

Nevertheless, the task of convincing Modric to continue for another season seems complicated, especially given that the current circumstances differ from what the player was hoping for when he decided to continue his career.

The Italian newspaper believes that the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada could become the final stop in Modric's career, allowing one of the greatest midfielders in football history to conclude his journey after years filled with achievements and titles.
