England Moves to Protect World Cup Camp Amid Spygate Crisis

Saturday 23-05-2026
The English Football Association has expressed concerns about the lack of privacy at the England team's training base in Kansas City, USA, during preparations for the 2026 World Cup, amid the escalating "Spygate" scandal that recently shook English football. These concerns arise following incidents of spying on training sessions among some clubs and national teams.

According to reports, the English FA will attempt to install additional fences and barriers around the training base at "Swoop Soccer Village" to prevent any attempts to observe training sessions or steal tactical ideas, especially in the sessions preceding matches. The facility will also be equipped with amenities such as a players' lounge and an outdoor gym to enhance the preparation environment.

For his part, England's national team coach Thomas Tuchel downplayed the level of concern, affirming that the coaching staff will handle the matter "in the best possible way without exaggeration," noting that some teams have previously had better options for their camp locations. At the same time, he emphasized that privacy remains an important element, especially in tactical training before matches.

On the roster front, Tuchel included several young players in the preparation camp, among them Ethan Nwaneri, alongside Alex Scott, Josh King, and Rio Ngomoha, while goalkeeper Jason Steele will remain with the group as a "training goalkeeper." The English team is preparing to start their tournament journey with a match against Croatia in Dallas on June 17.
