Sunday 17-05-2026
The President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, confirmed that work is ongoing on all organizational and administrative files related to the participation of the 'Lions of Mesopotamia' in the 2026 World Cup finals, emphasizing that the association has obtained tangible facilities concerning player visas and arrangements for overseas camps.

Darjal's remarks came on the sidelines of an honorary celebration held on Saturday for the national team, attended by Australian coach Graham Arnold. The President of the Association indicated that he seeks to continue leading Iraqi football by running in the executive office elections scheduled for the last quarter of this month.

Darjal revealed to the winwin website that the association had previously received a set of booking codes for World Cup match tickets, which were available at discounted prices in the United States. He explained that these codes expired last April, noting that the association distributed them to the Iraqi community there to benefit from them.

Regarding the visa issue, Darjal explained that procedures are progressing smoothly, thanks to coordination between the Iraqi and American sides, and direct support from the US embassy. He stated that a number of players have already obtained entry visas while being outside Iraq, whether residing in Europe or other countries, confirming that these facilities will contribute to the stability of upcoming camps.

The President of the Association resolved the debate over the leadership of the team's delegation in the World Cup, confirming that no executive office member will be assigned this task.

He added, 'I will be part of the delegation accompanying the team to the United States, and we will work to provide everything the players and technical staff need to ensure the best possible preparation.'

Darjal pointed out that the association is moving in parallel on the logistical side to ensure the success of the Spain camp, scheduled to start on May 22. He mentioned that the professional players will join the mission on the 25th of the same month, confirming that the association continues to communicate with European clubs to persuade them to allow players to join early.

Darjal concluded his remarks by praising coach Graham Arnold, confirming that the Australian coach is now fully aware of the characteristics of the Iraqi player, his thinking, and style on the field. He said, 'We have great confidence in his ability to lead the team to present an honorable image in the World Cup against teams with a great history in the tournament.'

The Iraqi national team is currently putting the final touches on its preparatory program, amid public aspirations that the World Cup presence will be different and reflect the development of Iraqi football in recent years.
