Spalletti: I Must Question Myself Before the Players, and This is What Juventus Deserves

Sunday 17-05-2026
Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti admitted that he bears the responsibility first after the 2-0 loss to Fiorentina, emphasizing that the team did not show the required level in a crucial match affecting the battle for Champions League qualification.

Spalletti said: "If you start this way, you start badly right away."

He added: "This fact that it's over, and that we are all dead, is wrong."

He continued: "Obviously, this is a very bad result; it was an important match."

Regarding his evaluation of the team's performance, he said: "As for my evaluation, it is not based solely on today. I think they did great things, there was significant growth, and they laid the foundation for important things."

The Juventus coach explained: "We had to play football today, maintaining a high level of quality and character."

He confirmed his responsibility: "First and foremost, I must question myself instead of the players. If this is what my team delivers, I must evaluate what I did before analyzing what they did."

He expressed his anger at the performance, saying: "The performance was poor in many aspects."

He talked about the match details: "Sometimes we were also unlucky, we conceded the first goal although we didn’t concede much, we didn’t start well, didn’t win many duels, and didn’t succeed in igniting the stadium atmosphere."

He added: "I must ensure this does not happen again, and I must create calmness in the players’ minds, allowing them to make decisions and play correctly."

He stressed: "These things make the stadium on your side, but we didn’t do what was required."

He continued: "We know that not qualifying for the Champions League affects financially, but talking about life and death or war is wrong; this is just a football match."

He went on: "The players must be organized, and the style of play must remain the same, which is what got us here. I have clear ideas about my players and myself, and I must analyze myself first before anything."

He concluded his statements by affirming that Juventus still deserves to be in the Champions League, saying: "We have done some good things, but we are not there now, and the Champions League is something Juventus and its fans deserve."
