Lewandowski Seeks Distinguished Farewell at Camp Nou

Sunday 17-05-2026
Polish striker Robert Lewandowski is aiming for a farewell that befits his career, after not being able to receive a proper public tribute upon his departure from Bayern Munich, according to what was published by the newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'.

The Bayern Munich fans were unable to honor Lewandowski appropriately, even though his departure was almost certain, it was not officially announced until after he played his last match with the team.

After moving to Barcelona, Lewandowski later returned to Munich on a special visit to bid farewell to the club in a fitting manner, where he gifted his former teammates a signed bottle of drink, along with pictures from his career with the club inside the gift box.

Lewandowski scored his last goal with Barcelona against Osasuna, at a time when he announced yesterday that he would leave the Catalan club at the end of the current season, and he will be able to bid farewell to his fans today at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium, as one of the team's greatest legends, after scoring no less than 119 goals during his career with the club.

The Spanish newspaper pointed out that the last months of the player's career in Germany witnessed tension and disagreements with the Bavarian club's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, along with reports of his unwillingness to renew his contract.

After Bayern's last match in the 2021/2022 season against Wolfsburg, Lewandowski announced that it might be his last match with the team, while the club's sporting director at the time confirmed that the player informed the management of his unwillingness to extend his contract and his desire to leave.

The Polish striker did not receive an official farewell in front of the fans after that match, but he approached the fans to thank them, and presented them with the Bundesliga goal award, while his teammates left the field, in an emotional moment where he appeared with his hand on his chest and shedding tears.

After moving to Barcelona, Lewandowski returned to Munich on a special farewell visit, describing that moment as sad, but he expressed his gratitude for all he achieved during his career there, confirming that he thanked everyone and gave gifts, and left feeling at peace.

Lewandowski had previously received a different farewell when leaving Borussia Dortmund, where he was honored with a massive public tribute at Signal Iduna Park, amidst applause that lasted for more than a minute, and a tribute from the club's sporting director, despite his subsequent move to rival Bayern Munich.
