All eyes in the German football scene are on a thrilling comeback that could bring Manuel Neuer back to the international spotlight. This follows reports that coach Julian Nagelsmann has made a decision regarding including him in Germany's squad for the upcoming World Cup.

According to "Sky Sports Germany," Nagelsmann has initially decided to bring back the veteran 40-year-old goalkeeper to the German national team for the World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, in a move considered one of the most anticipated decisions before the tournament.

Reports indicated that an agreement has indeed been reached between the coach, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, and the director of the German Football Association, Rudi Völler, following a series of meetings and discussions over the past weeks, along with Julian Nagelsmann's close monitoring of the goalkeeper's performance in recent matches.

Despite the good performances delivered by Oliver Baumann with Hoffenheim and the national team in recent times, the tendency within the German federation is leaning towards utilizing Neuer's extensive experience and his leadership role on the field.

Neuer announced his international retirement in August 2024 after a career spanning 124 international matches. His last appearance in the "Mannschaft" jersey was during the Euro 2024 quarter-finals against Spain.

However, according to the same reports, the veteran goalkeeper has agreed to return again, provided that he is included in the expanded list of 55 players sent to FIFA, in preparation for being selected in the final World Cup squad.

Nagelsmann is expected to announce the final squad for the German national team on May 21, with Neuer set to play a number of preparatory friendly matches against Finland and the United States as part of the plan to potentially reinstate him as the main goalkeeper for the World Cup.
