Roma Moves to Renew Dybala's Contract

Saturday 16-05-2026
AS Roma continues its efforts to secure Paulo Dybala's future, as club vice-president Ryan Friedkin has returned to the Italian capital to oversee contract renewal negotiations with the player's agent, Carlos Novel. These negotiations are directly linked to securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League.

The newspaper "Corriere dello Sport" clarified that Dybala's agent arrived in Rome on Friday evening and is expected to attend the upcoming derby match before the official meetings regarding the extension of the Argentine star's contract begin.

There is a sense of optimism within the Roma management about the possibility of reaching an agreement, especially since Dybala does not wish to leave the club at the present time. This has led to a decline in discussions about Boca Juniors and MLS clubs' interest in signing him.

Despite the mutual desire for the player to stay, the financial crisis remains the main obstacle to the agreement, as Dybala currently receives a net annual salary of 8 million euros, while the club's management is seeking to significantly reduce the wage bill.

The current offer from Roma includes a two-year contract extension, with a basic salary ranging between 2.5 and 3 million euros annually, in addition to bonuses linked to level and performance.

The Italian newspaper also pointed out that coach Gian Piero Gasperini requested the continuation of Dybala in his technical project, alongside Lorenzo Pellegrini and Zeki Celik, which gave the renewal file a strong boost within the club.

Roma understands that qualifying for the Champions League will give it a significant advantage in negotiations, both financially and in terms of the sports project offered to the player, who has asked his wife Adriana to postpone the idea of returning to Argentina for at least another year.

Meanwhile, Dybala is focusing on the upcoming derby match, having failed to score any goals in five previous games against the traditional rival, something he aims to change in the anticipated encounter on Sunday.
