Press reports revealed that Manchester City is preparing to open negotiations with their Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol to sign a new long-term contract, amid increasing interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in signing him.

According to the "TEAMtalk" website, Gvardiol has become one of coach Pep Guardiola's key players since joining Manchester City from Leipzig in 2023, prompting the club to move to secure his future even though his current contract runs until 2028.

The report indicated that Manchester City's sporting director, Hugo Viana, is conducting a comprehensive review of the team's planning, and after making progress in renewing Phil Foden's contract, the priority has shifted to negotiating with Gvardiol.

Sources confirmed that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have shown great interest in the 24-year-old Croatian defender, and both clubs have reached out to the player's representatives to inquire about his current situation at the Etihad Stadium.

Both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are seeking defensive reinforcements on the left side, while Gvardiol is considered a distinguished option due to his ability to play at the highest level in this position.
