Salah: We Know What Needs Improvement, and We Didn't Control Man United's Strengths
Sunday 03-05-2026
Arne Slot spoke after Liverpool's 3-2 loss to Manchester United in the English Premier League, admitting that his team failed to handle the opponent's strengths, particularly in transitions and counter-attacks.

Slot said, "We couldn't control their strengths, which we knew well: set-pieces and counter-attacks. You have to know where you lose the ball against United, as they are very strong in playing through the middle, and they have fast players like Bruno Fernandes to hurt you in transitions, which is what happened with the second goal. After we equalized 2-2, we lost focus and conceded immediately."

Regarding the second half, he explained: "We had a lot of possession, but one of their strengths is good defense. I tried to play more on the wings, but we focused too much on the center in the first half, which allowed them to counterattack."

He added: "When it was 2-2, perhaps no one expected us to lose the match, or maybe they did considering our season. We have a recurring problem of losing focus when we feel we can win, and the ball in the goal scene reached Kobbie Mainoo, who scored in a fantastic way."

Regarding the controversy over the second goal, he said: "If there was a handball, it is not clear enough to disallow the goal, but my main focus is on how we conceded the goal, because that's what we need to improve on."

He concluded his remarks about future improvement: "The differences are not significant, and we know what needs to be improved and are already working on it. The same issues recur, which is not surprising during the season due to time constraints. Some things can be adjusted tactically, but it is clear where we need to improve, and we will do so."
