Dortmund Negotiates a New Contract for Adeyemi to Avoid Losing Him for Free
Tuesday 21-04-2026
Borussia Dortmund is considering making concessions in its negotiations with its young star Karim Adeyemi, in order to reach a new agreement that satisfies both parties.

The proposed idea is similar to what happened previously with Nico Schlotterbeck, where a formula was adopted that balances the interests of both the club and the player, which may include the inclusion of a release clause in the contract.

Adeyemi had expressed his desire to leave weeks ago, a move supported by his agency Gestifute, managed by the star agent Jorge Mendes. This pressure makes Dortmund's management more flexible in negotiations, especially with the absence of strong offers so far in the transfer market.

The player's contractual situation is a crucial factor, as the nearing end of his contract might lead interested clubs to make offers below his market value. Therefore, Dortmund prioritizes renewing the contract to ensure maintaining the player's financial value and avoiding selling him at a low price.

On the other hand, the club requires a clear improvement in the player's performance, especially since his performance under coach Niko Kovac has not been consistently convincing, often finding himself on the bench. The management seeks to avoid a scenario of a free departure in 2027, even if it requires raising his salary to about 6 million euros annually in exchange for a higher technical commitment.
